ABI AWOYEMI is a UK based actress. Abi has been acting since the age of seven, taking part in various school plays and attending her local drama group.
Abi studied drama at college and was part of Chats Palace Art Centre drama group (London) throughout her teenage years. She took part in various improvised plays and professional productions which included her playing the role of Grusha in Bertolt Brechts The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Abi also played a supporting role in the British film High Heels and Low Life (2001).
Abi started auditioning for drama schools after this and got accepted at The Academy Drama School (White chapel, London). She went on to further train at The Poor School of Acting in London. Abi describes her training as very hard work, fun, and a great learning experience. In 2010, Abi played four characters (Emma, Mrs Blackpool, Chairwoman and Narrator) in the play Hard Times by Charles Dickens. Abi also played Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams and feels the role is one of the most complex and challenging roles she has played so far.
Abi is also a very strong dancer and sings very well (mezzo soprano). Apart from being fluent in English, Abi is also fluent in Yoruba (Nigerian language) and reads and write Arabic. When Abi is not acting, she loves to write poems and have had her poetry publushed in The Voice Newspaper (UK). She loves to dance (jazz, tap and ballet in particular), go running, horse riding, swimming and roller skating. Abi attends music concerts as often as possible to see her favorite artists and enjoys writing poems and lyrics herself. She also likes to drive, and ride her bike around the City of London. Abi enjoys traveling and discovering new places and has been to Ethiopia, Singapore, Paris and New York. Abi has also travelled around the UK and visited Exeter, Liverpool, Scotland and Wales to name a few!
